As
the North American Director of the International Order of St. Luke I would
like to welcome you to the OSL page on the web site of the Anglican Diocese
of Saskatoon. The Order of St. Luke is an interdenominational
organization committed to promoting and proclaiming the Christian Healing
Ministry within the church. It was begun by the late Rev. John Gaynor
and Mrs Ethel Banks in the 1930's. Banks was a priest of the Episcopal
(Anglican) Church of the United States. The membership of the Order is
found in many countries around the world and includes clergy and lay people
from almost every Christian denomination who are committed to Christ, to the
proclamation of the Gospel and to the practice of the healing ministry as we
have come to understand it from the teachings of Jesus. In North America the Order consists of over 7000 members from both
Canada and the United States. The North American branch of the
Order is divided into 14 Regions, 6 of which are in Canada. Each
Region is divided into local chapters whose members come together for prayer
and study to equip them to be instruments of Christ's healing presence and
ministry in the churches to which they belong.
The
Order accepts and understands that God works through the disciplines of
medicine as well as through the disciplines of prayer and sacrament and is
committed to working along side and with and not against the medical
professional. We work within the churches of the membership, and we
are Scripturally based, and Sacramentally grounded.
We
hope that you find the activities of the Order in Saskatchewan interesting
and helpful and If you would like to find out where the nearest OSL group is
in your area and how you can join us in our mission of preaching, teaching
and healing in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ please contact the North
American Director, Larry Mitchell at (306) 343-6649
