Re: Incumbent, Parish of St. JamesRector, Parish of St. James, Diocese of Saskatoon
Anglican Church of Canada Diocese of Saskatoon The Rt. Rev. Rodney Andrews
The Bishop of Saskatoon invites applications for the position of Rector of St. James’ Anglican Church, Saskatoon.
St. James’ is an active, progressive church with a determined sense of where they are being called as a faith community. The parish includes approximately 170 families consisting of 400 people. They cherish their Anglican heritage and strive to live Christ’s gospel by helping people discover who and what God is calling them to be through innovation and creativity in ministry.
The parish holds two Sunday Eucharists, both from the Book of Alternative Services. The 9:00 service, attended by 10 – 20 people, is a spoken Eucharist and the 10:30 service, attended by 110 to 120 people, is a sung Eucharist and includes a children’s story followed by Sunday School. The parish provides people with love and support and encourages the building of deep relationships. The ministries of St. James’ are directed outwardly and are aimed at full inclusiveness.
St. James’ has excellent facilities hosted in two historic buildings. The church contains the sanctuary, church hall, library, two Sunday School/meeting rooms, nursery, and two offices. The second building, called the Refinery, is dedicated for community outreach use by the parish. The Refinery houses a small performance stage, a lounge, a mediation room and three offices. The annual budget of the parish is about $330,000.
The parish requires the skills and experience of a mid-career professional who has self awareness and life experience and will feel at home in an urban setting which is in the process of rapid demographic change. Some of the key competencies for the St. James’ Rector are to have personal faith and sense of the Holy, a strong preaching and teaching style, parish connectedness, and a ‘world vision’ of acceptance and justice. With a congregation of dedicated lay leaders and a talented paid ministry team, it is important that the Rector be a strong leader who can continue to foster the leadership skills of other people and to support and coach those involved in the parish ministry.
The church is in the heart of the Nutana community of Saskatoon. Nutana is an eclectic community, strongly influenced by the presence of the University of Saskatchewan and the Broadway arts district. Because of this area, St. James’ is home to a wide variety of people including professionals, academia, students, and artists.
Clergy in the Diocese of Saskatoon work collegially and in support of diocesan ministries and policies. All clergy are expected to attend deanery meetings, Diocesan Synod, an annual clergy retreat, a clergy conference every other year, and to participate in Diocesan Council if elected.
